“I feel a bit like a timing belt between the local area and the company.’ Using this apt metaphor, Tommaso Righi, Area Manager at Macron, describes his role: a figure who acts as a link and bears responsibility, supporting shops in meeting their budgets and targets on the one hand, whilst working on regional development, forging new partnerships and managing agreements with leading clubs on the other. His remit is wide-ranging, stretching from northern and central Italy to northern Europe: Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
From cardboard boxes to the international market
Tommaso’s career began in 2017 with a post-master’s internship. “I started out unpacking boxes, carrying out quality control, handling dispatch, designing logos and printing kits. I spent two years abroad as a store manager, then I returned to Italy: first to Florence, in the sales department, then finally back home to Bologna, as an Area Manager.” A career progression built step by step, thanks to his skills, ambition and willingness to learn.
Ambition, training and a vision for the future
Tommaso sees personal growth as an integral part of the company’s growth. “Being ready for the next step is essential, because Macron’s expansion constantly creates new opportunities.” Not only that: today he contributes to the growth of others by mentoring the students at the Macron Sales Academy. “It’s a wonderful experience. Training others means leaving a little piece of yourself behind. You have to dedicate time, listen and be approachable. But that’s how it should be: the priority is to train these new recruits properly.”.
The challenges facing the underdog
In the early years, Tommaso had to overcome a personal challenge: feeling part of a team where many colleagues had spent their entire careers at Macron. “It wasn’t a problem with relationships – quite the opposite, in fact: I’ve made some of my closest friends here. But at the start, I felt a bit like an outsider.’ He managed to turn that feeling into a strength, earning recognition and achieving results on the job.
Dynamism and freedom of interpretation in the role
What he loves most about his job is the variety. “I might be in the office, with clients, or visiting a club. The role is dynamic and leaves room for your own interpretation. If you know how to seize opportunities and make the most of it, you’ll grow. Otherwise, you risk losing your way.”.
A company built on people
Over the past few years, Tommaso has witnessed Macron’s transformation first-hand: from a growing company to a well-structured organisation that cares about its people. “Macron provides us with practical tools to do our jobs well and build relationships with colleagues and customers. It’s a place where it’s easy to work and where you find new inspiration every day.”.
If you want to work in sport, come and work at Macron
For Tommaso, it all boils down to one word: passion. The very same passion that drives his work, his relationships and his daily energy. “Working in sport in Italy means working at Macron. It’s the best company for anyone who really wants to be part of this world.”.
