Cardiff Rugby, the Welsh XV, which competes in the United Rugby Championship and takes part in the European Challenge Cup, has unveiled the new kits that will be worn during the coming competitive season. Whilst the home kit retains the traditional combination of Cambridge blue and black, the ‘Alternate’ kit features a different colour scheme to last year’s, before returning to the sky blue used for the third kit. All are complemented by sophisticated designs and graphics that make these technical garments unique and exclusive.
The ‘Home’ shirt features a V-neck with a white trim and detailing in black and Cambridge blue. The back of the neck is personalised with the club logo and the graphic design featured on the Alternate shirt. The sweatband inside the collar features the team’s motto in two languages, Welsh and English, which reads: Nerth Trwy Undod – Strength Through Unity. On the chest, in sublimation print, the Macron Hero appears on the right and the Cardiff Rugby logo on the left. The club’s founding date, 1876, is printed on the outer back of the neck. The design of the new jersey is characterised by horizontal bands, printed using the sublimation process, which start at the shoulders and alternate between Cambridge blue and black, the latter colour ‘dominating’ the lower part of the jersey. The shorts are black with side stripes that echo the alternating pattern of black and light blue bands. The socks are black with two wide light blue horizontal stripes.
The ‘Alternate’ shirt, also featuring a V-neck, is characterised by its red and black colours, a traditional alternative colour combination. This shirt also features an inner tape bearing the motto in two languages. On the chest, in white, is the Macron Hero logo; to the left is the Welsh club’s crest; and on the back of the collar is the date 1876. The graphic design that characterises the shirt extends across the lower front and back, featuring embossed, arrow-tipped geometric black lines borrowed from the team’s crest, which is inspired by the stripes on the city’s coat of arms. The black shorts feature the same red-and-black geometric detail as the shirt on the sides, whilst the black socks have a red band just below the top edge.
The ‘Third’ version is a crew-neck shirt with a fluorescent yellow placket and black-and-white trim – the same colour combination used for the sleeve cuffs. The shirt is sky blue and features horizontal bands with an embossed design, containing fine tone-on-tone diagonal stripes. The Macron Hero logo on the right-hand side of the chest is in black, alongside the Cardiff Rugby crest. Here too, the inside of the collar features a sweatband with text in Welsh and English. The shorts are light blue with black side stripes, whilst the light blue socks have a black top edge and a white horizontal line just below it.
The jerseys have a body-hugging fit and are made from Armevo and Bodytex fabrics, which, as well as being lightweight and breathable, ensure maximum durability.
