The Scottish Rugby Union has unveiled the new match kits that will be worn throughout the coming season by all Scottish men’s and women’s national teams. Colours, tradition and symbols feature on the new shirts, manufactured by Macron using Eco-Fabric, 100% polyester made from recycled plastic, meaning 13 recycled half-litre bottles are used for every jersey produced, confirming the joint commitment by the SRU and the Italian brand to sustainability and respect for the environment.

The new ‘Home’ kit, which features an identical design for both the men’s and women’s teams, is navy blue with an electric light blue polo collar, the same shade used on the sleeve cuffs. The distinctive pattern on the Scottish national team’s new ‘Home’ jersey features on the sleeves and shoulders; it is an embossed reinterpretation of thistle leaves, the symbol of Scotland and the Scottish Rugby Union. The back of the neck is personalised with the graphic featured on the sleeves, the SRU logo and the motto ‘#AsOne’. The sweatband inside the collar is personalised with the word ‘SCOTLAND’ repeated and interspersed with the SRU logo. Embroidered on the chest in white are the Macron Hero – the Italian brand’s logo – and the SRU crest. Another interesting graphic detail can be found at the bottom of the back of the jersey: an embossed design of an old SRU logo featuring the inscription ‘EST.1873’, the year the Scottish Rugby Union was founded. The jersey will be worn for the first time by the Scottish women’s team at the Rugby World Cup, whilst the men’s team will wear it during the 2022 Autumn Nations Series.

Scotland’s range of jerseys includes the match kit, which features a Body Fit cut and is made from Eco-Armevo fabric with Eco-Boditex inserts – materials which, as well as being lightweight and breathable, ensure maximum durability, alongside replica versions in polyester and cotton, also available in women’s sizes, both as match shirts and replicas. A replica version is also available for junior sizes. The leisurewear range will be released in the coming weeks.

The new ‘Home’ kit is available exclusively from the Scottish Rugby Stores at BT Murrayfield and on Queen Street in Glasgow, or online at shop.scottishrugby.org and in the SRU section on macron.com, and will be available from all authorised Macron retailers worldwide from Tuesday 30 August.

“As a Scot and a passionate rugby fan, having the honour every year of being involved in the creative process behind the Scottish Rugby Union’s kits and apparel range is truly the best thing for me,’ commented Ross Cook, Senior Sports Marketing Manager at Macron – ”Seeing this collection take shape, weaving together the country’s rich history and rugby heritage whilst ensuring the latest technological innovations are incorporated into production, is truly something special, and I believe it’s only possible thanks to the strong collaborative relationship we have with the Scottish Rugby Union. …I may be a bit biased, but I honestly think this jersey really is the best.”.

Julian Momen, CCO of the Scottish Rugby Union, added: “For the second year running, we are delighted to see eco-friendly fabrics being used in both the official and replica shirts. We continue to enjoy a strong partnership with Macron, as demonstrated by the quality of the design of the new ‘Home’ kit. The collar has always been a popular feature of Scottish shirts, and we hope its return will be well received by our supporters. We can’t wait to see our supporters wearing our stunning new jersey in the stands, as well as seeing it worn by our players across all national teams as they face a truly challenging and exciting year ahead – not least the women’s team, who will be wearing the new jerseys during their first World Cup since 2010.”.
