The history, symbols, colours and identity of the Parramatta Eels, an Australian rugby club competing in the NRL Telstra Premiership, are perfectly captured in the Indigenous Jersey created by Macron, the club’s kit supplier, based on designs by the contemporary Aboriginal artist Sean Kinchela. This product showcases the ability to combine the technical qualities of the materials with the creative, graphic and artistic expertise of the Italian brand’s design team.
Blue and golden yellow blend harmoniously in the Indigenous Jersey, which is embellished with symbols and designs from Aboriginal history as a tribute to the land and the Burramattagal people, the local tribe settled in Parramatta. The jersey features a gold-yellow mandarin collar, as do the sleeve cuffs. The entire front is adorned with designs and symbols that “tell the story” of the Parramatta Eels’ identity. On the chest, against a yellow background with a gradient effect, a boomerang – an instrument that symbolises Aboriginal culture – stands out in blue. Further down is the design of an eel, the symbol of the Australian team.
On the shoulders, in white, stands out the Macron Hero, the Italian brand’s logo. On the right side of the chest is the NRL logo; on the left, over the heart, is the Parramatta Eels crest. On the back of the neck, against a yellow background, is printed the year the club was founded: 1947. On the back of the shirt, there are tone-on-tone flowers of varying sizes, and at the bottom, the eel design appears once more.
