The echoes of the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium still ring out, along with the final whistle blown by Bjorn Kuipers, the Dutch referee, which sealed Italy’s triumph. It was a magical evening, and Macron is proud to have been part of it as the official kit supplier to UEFA referees. A month has passed and attention is already turning to the upcoming European Cup season, with UEFA referees ready to take to the pitch in their new kits and technical apparel created by Macron, an international leader in the teamwear sector and “Official UEFA Referee Match Kit ”Supplier’.”.
The new shirts will make their debut at Windsor Park in Belfast, during the UEFA Super Cup final between Chelsea and Villarreal. These shirts will feature “an extra colour” – a colour that won’t be worn but which will characterise them all: the ‘green’ of sustainability and respect for the environment. The new UEFA referees’ shirts have in fact been made from Eco-Softlock fabric, a 100% polyester derived from recycled plastic and certified by the Global Recycled Standard. Recycled PET polyester has the advantage of requiring less energy throughout the production process.
Jerseys whose colours symbolise a natural bond between all the countries taking part in European club and international competitions. Colours that unite and celebrate the spirit of the game, respect for the rules and a passion for football.
The new kits, designed specifically for UEFA referees, come in four colours: black, yellow, fluorescent light blue and red (the latter replacing the fluorescent pink of the previous collection). The defining graphic feature of this new collection is the tone-on-tone vertical stripes, consisting of fine raised lines interspersed with the UEFA logo.
The jersey has a crew neck and a self-locking nylon zip fastening, and features comfortable front pockets with Velcro fastenings. The Macron Hero, the Italian brand’s signature logo, appears on the right side of the chest and on the shoulders. The UEFA FOUNDATION for children logo is featured on the left sleeve.
It has a slim fit; the main fabric is Eco-Softlock, and the Eco micromesh inserts ensure the garment offers maximum breathability.
Macron’s range of kit designed for UEFA referees is crafted from high-performance, innovative materials that guarantee maximum comfort and practicality, enabling referees to perform their vital role to the very best of their ability. From this new season onwards, these garments also convey a message of care and awareness regarding environmental issues and the protection of the ecosystem. Macron is a firm believer in sustainability, demonstrating its ‘green attitude’ and applying high-profile technological choices to its production processes that respect and protect the environment. These choices are shared and endorsed by UEFA.
The new collection for referees is fully customisable, just like the previous ones, and also includes a range of related training items, such as a tracksuit top, a hooded sweatshirt, a waterproof jacket and a cotton polo shirt. Particular attention has also been paid to base layers and undershirts, which also feature practical pockets on the arms and shoulders for storing the technological accessories that have now become an integral part of a referee’s work on the pitch.
“Our close collaboration with UEFA’s refereeing department over recent years has enabled us to develop a new collection that offers even better performance,” said Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron. “Practicality, comfort, together with a design where every detail has been carefully considered, are the hallmarks of the garments we produce for UEFA referees. We have received valuable feedback from them, which has been incorporated into the new kits that we are proud to provide, enabling them to perform at their best throughout a new, challenging, yet exciting season of European competitions.”.
“The new, stylishly designed UEFA referee kits are not only produced sustainably, but are also tailored to fit our referees,” said Roberto Rosetti, UEFA Referee Coordinator – “Macron and UEFA Refereeing Services have taken on board feedback from the referees themselves to develop and improve the products they wear on the pitch. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Macron for the 21–22 UEFA competition season with these revamped and improved kits.”.
