Edinburgh Rugby, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, has unveiled the new kits that the ‘Gunners’ will wear during the coming competitive season. The new ‘Home’ kit draws inspiration from and pays tribute to the Queensferry Crossing, an iconic landmark of the Scottish city, which links the Lothians to Fife, creating a direct link between the city and its extensive regional fan base. The away kit highlights one of the club’s signature colours, evoking the volcanic origins of the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Both kits proudly feature the logo of the Main Club Partner, Scottish Building Society, on the chest.
Edinburgh Rugby supporters can also look forward to a “special edition” jersey inspired by the 150th anniversary in the coming weeks. This will be released ahead of the festive inter-city derbies, as both the capital’s club and their rivals, the Glasgow Warriors, pay tribute to the 150th anniversary of the very first match between the two sides, which took place on 23 November 1872.
The new ‘Home’ shirt features a V-neck with burnt orange trim, a colour also featured on the sleeve cuffs. The jersey is navy blue; the back of the neck is personalised with the club’s colours and logo, and inside the collar there is a sweatband featuring the repeated inscription ‘EST 1872’, the year the Scottish club was founded. On the chest, the Macron Hero logo is on the right and the Edinburgh Rugby crest on the left. The front and back feature a sublimation-printed design comprising geometric shapes directly inspired by the ‘sails’ formed by the cables supporting the spans of the Queensferry Crossing, the imposing bridge – the longest of its kind – which spans the River Forth. The home kit is completed by navy blue shorts with burnt orange inserts and navy blue socks with an orange top band.
Burnt orange is the colour that characterises the ‘Away’ version of the Scottish XV’s new match kits. The shirt has a V-neck with navy blue trim. The back of the neck is personalised in the same way as the ‘Home’ kit, and here too there is an inner tape bearing the repeated inscription ‘EST 1872’. The orange of the shirt is ‘broken up’ across the chest by three horizontal stripes: two narrow white ones and one very wide navy blue one. The orange colour evokes Edinburgh’s volcanic origins, much like the rock upon which the famous Castle stands, which forms an integral part of the Scottish team’s crest. The shorts are orange with navy blue side stripes; the socks are white with a navy blue top edge and two navy blue horizontal stripes, with an orange stripe in the centre.
The shirts have a Body fit and are made from Armevo and Bodytex fabrics, which, as well as being lightweight and breathable, ensure maximum durability and comfort on the pitch. The kit produced by Macron for Edinburgh Rugby is available in the section dedicated to the Scottish club on macron.com.
