Adorned with national colours and symbols, the Comoros national team’s new kits reflect the archipelago’s values, identity and traditions. In green, white and blue, these kits will see the “Coelacanthes” off in January for the East African nation’s first-ever and historic appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
To mark this historic occasion, Macron has produced the kits (Home, Away and Third) for the Comoros national team, which the squad will wear during their matches in the final stages of the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Cameroon in January 2022. The Comoros are in Group C alongside Gabon, Ghana and Morocco.
The main features of these new shirts are the colours of the flag, the gold collar symbolising Comorian marriage and traditional dress, the “Chiromani” motifs representing the family and the women of the Comoros, and the moon and stars, which relate to the flag and religion. Finally, for the first time, the phrase “Wassi Wa Komori Damu Ndzima” will appear on the shirt to remind us of our unity behind this national team.
The ‘Home’ shirt has a V-neck with gold trim at the front. The body of the shirt is green, with the shoulders and sleeves in a darker shade of green. The sleeve cuffs feature the colours of the national flag: yellow, white, red and light blue. The flag also features on the back of the neck and the lower front, where a tone-on-tone, off-centre design to the left depicts a crescent moon with four stars. On the sides is a repeating pattern inspired by “Chiromani”, a traditional Comorian fabric worn by local women that strongly represents the national identity.
The Macron Hero logo is embroidered in white on the right-hand side of the chest, whilst on the left, over the heart, is a patch featuring the FCF (Fédération Comorienne de Football) logo. The words ‘Wassi Wa Komori Damu Ndzima’, taken from the lyrics of the national anthem, are printed in gold on the back of the collar. The shorts are green with white drawstrings and feature four horizontal stripes in the colours of the flag along the thigh seams; these colours also appear in the centre of the green socks, which have a dark green top band.
The “Away” version is white with a V-neck featuring dark green and gold trim. It replicates the design and graphic features of the home kit in full, with the sides, sleeves and shoulders featuring the “Chiromani” fabric pattern. The colours of the national flag appear on the sleeve hems and the bottom of the shirt. The line from the national anthem on the back of the collar is in green, whilst the front features a tone-on-tone detail of the crescent and the four stars from the flag.
The “Third” shirt is navy blue with gold detailing (V-neck trim, lettering on the back of the neck, and the top edge of the socks). The shoulders and sleeves are a lighter shade of blue. The “Chiromani” graphic design appears only on the sides. The shorts and socks are navy blue and both feature the colours of the Comoros flag.
