A shirt always evokes strong emotions, but it can also convey important messages and initiatives. ‘Samp for People’ is a limited-edition ‘special edition’ shirt, created jointly by Macron and U.C. Sampdoria, which draws inspiration from the club’s social responsibility project of the same name and will be worn during the Sampdoria v Lazio match on Sunday 5 December.

A shirt which, on the one hand, embodies Sampdoria’s message and commitment to civil society; and on the other, the Italian brand’s commitment to environmental sustainability, expressed through the ‘Macron 4 The Planet’ project, whose initiatives include the production of technical garments in Eco-Fabric, 100%, made from recycled plastic and certified by the Global Recycled Standard. The special ‘Samp for People’ shirt, made from Eco-Sirena Light and Eco-Micromesh fabrics, thus becomes a perfect ‘manifesto’ of Sampdoria’s big heart and green spirit.

The Samp for People shirt is navy blue and features a mandarin collar with silver trim, which also appears on the sleeve cuffs. The back of the neck is personalised with the Samp for People logo. On the right-hand side of the front, starting from the shoulder, there is a vertical band printed with stripes in the traditional colours of the Blucerchiati club: royal blue, white, red, black, then white and blue again. On the right-hand side of the chest, in silver silicone print, is the Macron Hero, the Italian brand’s logo, whilst on the left, over the heart, is a patch featuring the club crest.

Two further details characterise this special shirt. The first is the Cross of St George, the symbol of the Ligurian regional capital, which always features on the Sampdoria captain’s armband. Here, it is in silver and positioned in the centre of the shirt. The second is a detail on the left sleeve: the silver inscription ‘12 August 1946’, the date on which Unione Calcio was founded. On the outside of the back of the collar, in silver, is the silhouette of the Baciccia, the team’s emblem.

The ‘Samp for People’ shirt, available at SampCity in XX Settembre, the Macron Store in Genoa and on the Sampdoria and Macron websites, is a limited edition with a run of 1,000 pieces, all featuring a numbered label. The shirts worn by the Blucerchiati players in the match against the Biancocelesti will eventually be auctioned off in support of Apnea Academy and, specifically, the ‘SpazzApnea – Operation Clean Seabed’ initiative, an underwater waste collection initiative organised as a team competition.
