On 8 April, York United and HFX Wanderers will officially kick off the fourth season of the Canadian Premier League, the Canadian football league in which Macron has been, since its inception, the technical partner and sole official kit supplier to the eight clubs (Atlético Ottawa, HFX Wanderers FC, York United FC, Forge FC, Valor FC, FC Edmonton, Cavalry FC and Pacific FC) taking part in the competition.
The Hero company and CPL have unveiled the new Primary match kits that the teams will wear throughout this new season; in line with their shared commitment to greater environmental sustainability, these kits are made from Eco-Fabric, a fabric made entirely from recycled plastic and certified by the Global Recycled Standard.
Once again this year, the new shirts have been designed and produced so that each one is unique and exclusive, whilst at the same time representing the unity of the Canadian Premier League’s sporting project, as expressed by the motto on the back of the neck of all the kits, ‘We are MANY We are ONE’, and the personalised back neck featuring the CPL logo and the words ‘FOR CANADIANS, BY CANADIANS’.
The close collaboration between the Italian brand’s design department and the CPL team has led to the creation of technical garments with meticulous attention to detail, using high-quality materials and drawing on careful graphic and historical research to best highlight, for each club, its identity and sense of belonging to the city and region it represents.
It is precisely the design, alongside the club colours, that allows each individual club’s historical, geographical and emotional references to be ‘told’ and highlighted. Pacific FC, the reigning CPL champions, feature a design on their purple and sky-blue home kit that evokes the branches of the Douglas fir, native to British Columbia. Forge FC, two-time champions, combine orange and grey with a design featuring a flame and a maple leaf. Cavalry FC’s kits feature a design of triangles and diamonds, shapes found in Calgary’s buildings and landmarks. Blue, white, sophisticated geometric designs and the ever-present Rally Rabbit feature on FC Edmonton’s kit. A simple yet eye-catching design combining black, maroon and gold adorns Valour FC’s home kit. White, alongside York Green, Lake Ontario Blue and Victory Gold, characterise York United’s kits. Blue, sky blue and ocean waves feature on the HFX Wanderers’ primary kit; finally, the design on the Atletico Ottawa kit – which retains the layout of the Madrid-based Colchoneros’ kit – is inspired by the Rideau Canal (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its locks.
