1931–2021: 90 years of history to be celebrated. To mark the occasion, Asteras Tripolis FC – a club competing in the Super Liga Ellada, the top tier of the Greek football league – and Macron, the kit sponsor of the Arcadia-based club, have decided to produce an ‘anniversary’ shirt, which will also serve as the new “home” kit that the yellow-and-blues will wear throughout the coming season.

Looking at a faded photograph, dated 1931, you can see a group of lads posing in shirts with thick horizontal stripes, and the goalkeeper wearing knee pads and his ever-present woollen flat cap. A time long past, but one that inspired the staff at Asteras Tripoli FC and Macron’s design team to create a modernised version of the shirt as a tribute to those ‘heroes of the past’.

The new 2021–2022 ‘Home’ shirt features a blue polo collar with an elasticated tape fastening. The front of the shirt features horizontal blue and yellow stripes that continue down the sleeves and appear at the bottom of the back of the shirt. The back of the neck is personalised with the Greek club’s logo on a yellow background, positioned between the numbers 20 and 21 and beneath the words ‘Anniversary 90 Years’. The two dates, 1931 and 2021, are embroidered in blue on the outer back of the neck.

The tribute to this club’s history continues with the inscription – repeated and interspersed with a star – on the inner tape of the shirt, which reads: ‘You’ve come from the past, from the glorious years’nia’. On the right-hand side of the chest, the Macron Hero – the Italian brand’s logo – is embroidered in blue, whilst on the left, over the heart, is the Asteras Tripolis FC crest.

The home kit is completed by blue shorts, whilst the socks feature the same design as the shirt, with horizontal yellow and blue stripes. The shirt has a slim fit, and is made from Piola fabric, which gives it a distinctly retro look.
