A more than satisfactory season is drawing to a close, and at home Sampdoria Football Club Attention is already turning to the future design of the upcoming kits. To mark the Ligurian derby between Sampdoria and Spezia – the final midweek fixture of the 2020–2021 Serie A season – the club and Macron, the Blucerchiati’s kit sponsor, have unveiled what will be next season’s third kit. The colour is one that first takes us back to the 1980s, then to the Sampdoria side of Vialli and Mancini, and subsequently to that of Mihajlovic, Gullit and Platt. It is a colour particularly dear to Sampdoria fans: red.
The design of U.C. Sampdoria’s new 2021–2022 “Third” kit is inspired by the one worn exactly 40 years ago, during the 1981–82 season. It is red with a polo collar and the Blucerchiati stripe running vertically down the right-hand side. The back of the neck is personalised with the club’s colours and the phrase ‘La Maglia Più Bella Del Mondo’ (The Most Beautiful Shirt in the World). On the right-hand side of the chest, in white, is the Macron Hero, the Italian brand’s logo, whilst on the left, over the heart, is the U.C. Sampdoria crest, whilst lower down in the centre stands out the Cross of St George, the symbol of the Ligurian capital and a feature that has always been incorporated into the blue-and-black stripe on Sampdoria’s shirts. White detailing adorns the sleeve hems and the bottom of the shirt.
The race kit is completed by red shorts and socks. The jersey has a slim fit, and the micromesh inserts ensure excellent breathability.
For all fans and supporters of a shirt that is undoubtedly as “unique” as that of Unione Calcio Sampdoria, this is an event not to be missed.
