Following the unveiling of the ‘Home’ shirt, Reading FC – which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year – and Macron, the Hero company and kit sponsor of The Royals, have unveiled the new ‘Away’ shirt that the English club will wear throughout the coming season.
For the ‘away’ kit, Macron and Reading FC have decided to pay tribute to the team that won the Full Members‘ Cup in the 1987–88 season – a competition held from 1985 to 1992 following the exclusion of English sides from European tournaments. It is the iconic yellow shirt in which Reading FC lifted the cup, and the images of that historic day at the ’old’ Wembley remain vivid in the memories of Royals fans. It is a special shirt, designed as a tribute to the great players of that 1988 season.
The “Away” version is ochre yellow, with a V-neck featuring white, black and ochre yellow trim. There are two vertical light blue stripes around the sleeves, whilst there is a horizontal black stripe across the shoulders. The back of the neck is personalised with a label featuring a blue band with gold edging, the logo – specially redesigned to mark the 150th anniversary – and the inscription, also in gold, ‘1871 – 2021 150 YEARS’, which is also embroidered on the back of the neck.
As with the ‘Home’ version, the shirt has a slim fit; the main fabric is Softlock, and the inclusion of micromesh inserts ensures the shirt is lightweight and offers maximum breathability. The new ‘Away’ shirt will be worn by Reading in their first match of the new season away at Stoke City on 7 August.
