He initially started with an internship which, after only a few months, evolved into an apprenticeship. Originally from the United States and having moved to Italy just over two and a half years ago, his initial plan was to gain temporary work experience. However, his journey at Macron inspired him to stay and continue growing within the company.
An international and diverse start
“My experience began without a clearly defined role. At first, I supported the Spain and Portugal regions, assisting the Territory Managers while translating documents and contracts between English, Spanish, and Italian. I also helped organize client activities, meetings, and business trips.”
This first experience exposed Massimo to a wide variety of tasks, allowing him to gain insight into the company’s processes while building relationships with colleagues and managers from different countries.
Learning in the field: the Valencia Meeting
One of the most significant moments of his journey was participating in the Macron Sports Hub Meeting in Valencia, where around 40 managers from across the world—including the Americas, Australia, and South Africa—took part in an immersive experience focused on the Spanish market.
“Over the course of three days, we visited nearly nine Sports Hubs and multi-brand stores, as well as five clubs, showcasing the structure and potential of our market. It was a lot of work with very little sleep, but it was incredibly enjoyable and educational. It gave me a comprehensive understanding—not only of the commercial side of the business, but also of the people working in the field.”
The experience allowed Massimo to compare different retail models firsthand, from highly customized flagship stores to smaller local businesses, further strengthening his understanding of Macron’s international business.
An experience that broadens your perspective

“It’s an intense experience, but incredibly rewarding. It helps you see the business from different perspectives while building meaningful relationships with people and markets around the world. At the same time, it reminds you that there’s always something new to learn and room to grow.”

Cultural integration: adapting and feeling part of the community
Moving to Italy from another country can be challenging, but for Massimo, the integration process felt natural and gradual.
“I consider myself a very adaptable person—I tend to go with the flow. Having previously lived in Spain definitely helped, so the cultural adjustment wasn’t too difficult. I had time to learn the language, understand local customs, and build relationships outside of work as well.”
One of the key factors in his successful integration was engaging with everyday life in Italy: studying the language, making friends, and becoming part of the local community.
“Making friends outside of Macron, joining a team, meeting new people—those are the things that really help you feel like you belong.”
Sport as a universal language
Sport has played a central role in both Massimo’s personal life and his integration journey.
“I’ve always played football. While I was living in Spain, I also got into volleyball, and once I moved to Italy I went back to playing football. As soon as I joined Macron, I started playing with my colleagues—it was one of the easiest and most natural ways to get to know people.”
Even before his first official day at Macron, Massimo had already begun building relationships by participating in informal activities with future colleagues, making his transition into the company even smoother.
“Now we also play together outside of work, take part in tournaments, and enjoy sporting events together. It creates a different kind of connection—more genuine and more direct.”
Team Building beyond the office
At Macron, the employee experience extends beyond the workplace through shared activities that strengthen team spirit.
“The activities we do outside of work really make a difference. Even something as simple as attending a sporting event together or spending time together over the weekend helps create stronger relationships with your colleagues.”
According to Massimo, sport becomes an opportunity for connection, even for people who are not particularly competitive or passionate about athletics.
“Even if you’re not an athlete or don’t follow a particular sport, these moments allow people to spend time together, have fun, and build relationships. That naturally carries over into everyday work.”
