Partick Thistle FC, the historic Glasgow-based club, joins the Macron family. The club, currently competing in the Scottish Championship, the second tier of Scottish football, and the Italian brand, a global leader in sportswear and teamwear, have announced a multi-year agreement covering the supply of game kits for the first team, women’s team and youth academy sides.

Celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, the club was founded in 1876 in the Partick district, where it played its matches until 1909. The club later moved to Maryhill, in the north-west of Glasgow, establishing Firhill Stadium as its home ground, which remains the home of the Jags today. In 1897, Partick Thistle FC achieved its first promotion to the top division and, in 1921, secured its first major honour by defeating Rangers in the Scottish Cup final. Another historic triumph followed in the 1970s with victory in the Scottish League Cup, this time beating Celtic 4-1. That success earned Partick Thistle FC qualification for the 1972/73 UEFA Cup. The club’s honours list also includes six Scottish First Division titles, seven Glasgow Cups and three Glasgow Charity Cups.

The club colours of Partick Thistle are yellow, red and black, although during the early decades of its history the team mainly wore blue kits with red and white detailing. The current colour combination was introduced in 1935 and gradually became one of the club’s defining visual elements. The symbol featured in the club crest also draws deeply from Scottish tradition: the thistle, the national emblem that has been part of the country’s culture for centuries.

The partnership between Macron and Partick Thistle FC will give rise to collections designed to celebrate the history, identity and innovation of the club through game kits and apparel ranges developed to enhance the Scottish club’s heritage, symbols and sense of belonging. Design, stylistic research and technical performance will be combined with a strong commitment to sustainability: as with all Macron partner clubs, the garments will be produced using Eco Fabric, materials made entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic.

We are delighted with this partnership, which further strengthens our relationship with Scottish football,” said Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron. “Partick Thistle FC is undoubtedly a fundamental part of the history of this football movement, and it is exciting to conceive and develop game sets and apparel collections for supporters that can best express the values, colours and history of this club.

Everyone at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill is extremely excited to be working with Macron, a highly respected sportswear brand who already partner with a plethora of top-level clubs across a whole host of sports.” Partick Thistle Acting General Manager Graham McRoberts added. “We’re committed to producing merchandise that our fans will love and I can’t wait for them to see what we’ve got on the way in conjunction with Macron over the summer.”
