THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF THE ‘CUP GIANT-KILLERS’
Wales“ oldest professional football club and the third oldest in the world, Wrexham AFC is rich in history, tradition and support from its community. Despite having played mainly in the English leagues, numerous victories in the Welsh Cup – 23, a record – have allowed them access to the European Cup and a reputation as ”giant cup-killers”. Currently, the club is at the top of the National League and is ready to play for the FA Trophy final on May 22. After the recent acquisition by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, the goal is to return to the EFL and make Wrexham’s star shine on the international stage.
DEVELOPING TALENT WITHIN THE COMPANY‘
Wrexham boasts a tradition in developing homegrown talent. The goal is not only to unearth promising young players but to offer them a path of growth and opportunities within the club, from the youth teams to the first team. This season, six players from Wrexham AFC Youth signed professional contracts with the club and six players from Wrexham AFC Women’s U19 made their debut in the first team. Gareth Owen, the women’s team manager and, before that, an iconic former homegrown talent, said: ‘It is probably the most rewarding thing of all to see the Under 19s make the leap to ’senior“ football. The path is open to anyone who wants to progress.‘ These paths and this way of understanding football allow the club to feel even closer to the community that has continuously supported it, as in 2011, when fans gathered to raise over £100,000 in a single day to prevent financial decline and save the club's future.
TRADITIONS AND LEGENDS OF THE CLUB
The Racecourse Ground, the oldest international football stadium still in use, has hosted many historic matches and seen the rise of many of Wrexham's legends. Among others, the club's all-time top scorer, Tommy Bamford, with 175 goals in 204 matches, and player-coach Arfon Griffiths, 591 appearances for the club and a promotion to Division Two as a coach in 1978, the best period for Wrexham. These figures have been particularly influential and continue to inspire the new generations of Wrexham players. Under the new management, a strong commitment remains to maintain and strengthen the club's historical and cultural heritage, starting with the redevelopment of the historic Racecourse Ground.
VALUES COMMON TO THE TEAM, THE TIFOSI AND THE TECHNICAL PARTNER
A story to be celebrated and built upon. An incredibly vibrant and dynamic community, united by a passion and giving back to the club in return. A sense of loyalty, belonging to something greater, and unity regardless of circumstances. These are the values that have always characterized Wrexham, woven into the fabric of the city and faithfully reproduced by Macron in the design of the jerseys. In the Italian style that characterizes the brand’s design, the kits produced for Wrexham represent a tribute to the club’s tradition and cultural heritage, preambles to an ambitious future that yet to be written.
