Team Australia, which will be competing at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August 2022, will be kitted out by Macron. The Italian brand has become the first Official Partner of the 2022 Australian Commonwealth Games Team for competition and training kit: a prestigious agreement that enables Macron to further consolidate its presence in the Australian market. The Macron Hero logo already features on the shirts of Perth Glory FC and Adelaide United football clubs, as well as on those of the Parramatta Eels, an Australian Rugby League team.

The partnership involves the supply of match kits, a range of training and leisurewear, as well as a range of accessories. A wide and varied range that includes jerseys, vests, shorts, leotards, and ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ kits for the hockey and netball teams (a sport widely played in Australia, particularly by women, and similar to basketball). The staff at Commonwealth Games Australia and Macron’s design team are working to develop the entire collection, which will be unveiled in 2022.

Craig Phillips, CEO of Commonwealth Games Australia, said he was delighted that an international sportswear brand such as Macron had joined the Commonwealth Games Australia partnership programme for Birmingham. “The enthusiasm shown by Macron in developing the competition and training kits for our athletes is a sign of their commitment to ensuring our athletes have everything they need to compete at their best,” added Philips. “Equipping a team of 400 athletes, as well as staff members, across 21 disciplines is no easy task, and Macron has demonstrated – through its long history in Europe and its work with numerous sports clubs and federations, including its activities here in Australia – that it is the ideal brand for producing high-quality, high-performance kit. From gymnasts to weightlifters, from para-athletes to marathon runners, and from hockey, rugby, netball and cricket teams, our squad is a diverse group with varied needs, and Macron is able to provide each and every one of them with the best and highest-performing technical kit.”.

Macron will also be providing Team Australia with clothing made from Eco-Fabric, which is 100 per cent recycled plastic and certified by the Global Recycled Standard. This decision forms part of “Macron 4 the Planet”, a project that encapsulates the Italian company’s commitment to greater environmental sustainability. This responsible choice involves developing practices focused on the use of renewable energy, recycling and the regeneration of materials, whilst avoiding waste and ensuring that production processes are guided by sustainability principles.

Australia will be represented at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham by around 400 athletes competing in 21 sports. The programme features 136 events in which female athletes can win medals, 134 for men and 13 mixed-team events. For the first time, there will be more medals up for grabs for women than for men. The Commonwealth Games feature eight sports in which para-athletes will compete.
