On the night between Sunday 11 and Monday 12 February, Kansas City and San Francisco will face off in the’the most important American football event of the year, to be held at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. An event that, over the years, has transcended US borders, establishing itself as one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting events (and beyond) of all time and becoming a true spectacle watched by millions of viewers around the world. This global exposure will not only be directed at the players on the pitch, but will also, to a small extent, involve one of Macron’s partner teams, with the Wrexham AFC who will star in the advert produced by STōK Cold Brew for this event.
The interest generated by the most eagerly awaited American football match of the year has, in fact, fuelled a genuine competition amongst brands over the years to produce increasingly creative and spectacular adverts during the half-time break. STōK Cold Brew, which has been a Stadium Partner of Wrexham AFC since this year, has decided to focus its promotional video specifically on the Welsh club.
The star of the advert is the two-time Oscar winner Sir Anthony Hopkins, who, in the video, prepares with great intensity and passion to get into character for the role he is to play, but which ultimately turns out to be that of the Wrexham mascot, Wrex the dragon. Wearing the Welsh club’s 2023/24 home shirt, the mascot cheers on the fans and then, at half-time, Sir Anthony Hopkins sips his iced drink whilst explaining how his very own “a cold drink is capable of bringing forth the fire-breathing dragon”.
“It’s truly thrilling to see the Macron Hero featured in an advert shown at one of the world’s most important events. We can only be grateful for this and thank our partner Wrexham AFC and, above all, STōK Cold Brew for the prestigious and original idea that has, in some way, involved us. – he declared Angelo Marino, Macron’s Head of Communications – Macron is a constantly growing company whose brand is recognised and appreciated, and whose credibility is built on an obsession with product quality and innovation. All of this enables us to meet the needs of an ever-widening range of prestigious teams and partners, such as Wrexham AFC, which has enabled us to take to such an important stage this year.”.
“STōK Cold Brew is using its debut at this event to bring a different kind of ‘football’ to America’s biggest stage. There’s no better way to celebrate our brand’s passion for daring moves – he declared Brittney Polka, Vice-President of STōK Cold Brew – STōK is a huge supporter of everything to do with Wrexham AFC, and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to include references to other club partners in the video, including Macron. In case you missed it, the diacritical mark above the “o” in STōK is called… you guessed it… a macron. No coincidence!”.
The Wrexham AFC, the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest in the world, holds the record for the most Welsh Cup wins – 23 – and has reached three FA Cup quarter-finals and one Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final. In 2021, it was bought by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and in 2023 it secured a historic promotion to League Two, where it currently sits in an impressive fourth place in the table. The club’s recent huge success is down to the sports docuseries ‘’Welcome to Wrexham’, now in its second series and already confirmed for a third, follows the team’s sporting fortunes since the arrival of the new owners, interspersed with stories of life in the Welsh town.
A successful journey which Macron He is delighted to be taking part, supporting the Welsh club in this new media ‘adventure’.
