Macron He enters the world of curling and does so on a global level. The Italian brand has become the Technical partner of World Curling, The international sports federation that directs and regulates the sport of curling worldwide and in all its disciplines. Macron will provide technical clothing to the race officials involved in all the events organized and managed by World Curling, including the competitions scheduled for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Curling has very distant origins and is believed to be among the oldest team sports in the world. The “thunderous game”, as it was called for the particular noise made by granite stones sliding on the ice, appears already in some paintings by a Flemish artist of the 16th century depicting an activity similar to curling practiced on frozen ponds. The first written evidence appeared in Latin, in Scotland, on a document in which a monk from the Abbey of Paisley and a representative of the abbot are mentioned as taking part in a challenge. Also in Scotland, which can be considered the homeland of this sport, the first recognized curling clubs were founded, and curling was ‘exported’ from the United Kingdom to several countries around the world, in some of which it is still more widespread today than in its place of origin.

World Curling officially became a Federation in 1965 and currently has 74 member countries. Among the first members were, of course, Scotland, then Sweden, Norway, France, and Canada; while the latest affiliated Federations were the Principality of Monaco this year and Pakistan, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico in 2023. Curling has been an Olympic sport since the 1998 edition in Nagano, Japan, and has been included in the Paralympic Games program since the Turin 2006 Olympics.

“We are delighted to announce this agreement with a world-class federation like World Curling. – he declared Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron – A partnership that allows us to expand the range of federations that Macron supports and that confirms the quality and technicality of our clothing, capable of meeting the needs of those who practice sports at every level and in every discipline. The World Curling officials will have at their disposal innovative, comfortable, high-performance garments that at the same time boast a sophisticated and elegant design.”.

James Beatt, responsible for the commercial strategy of World Curling, stated: “We are thrilled to have Macron as our official technical partner to provide the apparel for our staff during international competitions. As a winter sport, we are very mindful of global warming and Macron’s approach to greater environmental sustainability through his various initiatives was a significant factor in this partnership. The agreement with Macron will allow us to significantly reduce our environmental impact by using more sustainable materials for our apparel and reducing waste through the supply of quality clothing with a long life cycle.”.
