West Indies Cricket, one of the most popular and widely followed teams in world cricket, joins the ‘family’ Macron’. The new partnership will involve the supply of technical equipment (match kits, training gear and travel gear) to all men’s and women’s national teams, as well as to the A teams, the Academies and the youth teams. This marks a new and prestigious high-profile collaboration in the world of international cricket, following the one announced last April with Cricket Ireland.
The West Indies teams are governed by Cricket West Indies, the governing body for cricket in the region, and represent a unique case in sport – not just in cricket. In fact, it is the only cricket team that represents a group of nations, and can therefore draw on the strength, skills and passion of each of its member nations to unite through cricket and collectively represent an extremely vast and diverse region. It represents a total of 15 English-speaking nations in the Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sint Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US Virgin Islands.
Renowned as one of the most exciting and formidable teams in world cricket, the West Indies are also one of the most successful sides, able to draw on the skills, talent and determination of the Caribbean people to compensate for their relatively small population compared with other nations. The West Indies were among the first winners of the Cricket World Cup (in 1975 and 1979) and reached the final again in 1983. The Federation’s trophy cabinet also includes an ICC Champions Trophy (2004) and the 2016 ‘treble’ comprising the ICC World T20 (men’s and women’s) and the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which saw the Windies the only team in history to be crowned World Champions in three different tournaments at the same time. For a full 15 consecutive years, from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s, they remained unbeaten in Test cricket, racking up an incredible winning streak of 29 consecutive victories.
The West Indies’ men’s and women’s teams currently feature some of the sport’s leading players, who are part of a new generation of rising talent representing the Caribbean with the joy, innovation and courage that characterise the West Indies.
“The history, achievements and international prestige of West Indies Cricket make us particularly proud of this partnership. – he declared Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron – This is further confirmation of the quality and reliability of our technical garments, which are available to the ever-growing number of sports federations taking to the field with the Macron Hero logo on their chests. Our commitment is to represent, through the match kits and the entire range of clothing dedicated to them, the history, symbols and identity of West Indies Cricket.”.
Dominic Warne, CWI’s commercial director, said: “Cricket West Indies is looking forward to embarking on this new technical partnership with Macron, which will benefit fans, players and the environment. Players will have access to high-quality technical kit to meet their performance needs at the highest level. We are confident that fans will appreciate the new jersey designs, and we will ensure they can purchase them at all West Indies matches and via Macron’s online shop. Furthermore, the team’s jerseys are theMade entirely from recycled plastic bottles, not only reducing waste but also minimising the energy used in production. We can’t wait to see the maroon of our shirts in the stands and on the streets, when fans and players will be wearing the new kit, with the T20 World Cup set to take place in the Caribbean in 2024”.
