The Georgian Rugby Union, one of the fastest-growing federations in the world of rugby, has chosen Macron as its kit sponsor. The “Lelos” – the nickname of the Georgian national team, derived from the ancient folk sport of Lelo burti, a sort of rugby played with a pumpkin-shaped ball – are undoubtedly a rising force on the European rugby scene. Georgia’s honours list includes no fewer than 12 victories in the Rugby Europe International Championship, 14 Antim Cups (head-to-head international matches between Georgia and Romania) and participation in four editions of the World Cup, the first of which was in 2003.
The agreement between the Georgia Rugby Union and Macron is for five years and provides for the supply of match kits and all technical apparel to all the federation’s national teams: the senior national team, the sevens team, the women’s team and the youth teams. Staff at the Georgia Rugby Union and the Italian company’s design department are already working on developing the new match kits and technical garments, characterised by high-performance materials, thoughtful design and attention to detail. An exclusive, ‘tailor-made’ collection designed to showcase the colours, symbols and traditions of the Georgian national team.
