The Italian Flying Disc Federation and Macron, the Hero company and a leading international brand in the teamwear sector, have announced a technical sponsorship agreement. Over the next two years, the Italian brand will supply competition kits and technical clothing to the Federation, with the option for all FIFD affiliates to benefit from the contract as well.
The FIFD, founded in 1979, is the sports federation that governs Flying Disco and is based in Bologna. It currently has 29 affiliated clubs and nearly 2,000 registered competitive athletes, 120 federation coaches and 16 national teams across various categories and divisions (Open, Women, Mixed), with excellent results and placings in international events.
Frisbee is a sport whose origins go back a long way, to the 1930s. The American confectionery company “Frisbie Pie Co.” supplied university canteens in Connecticut with cakes and tarts which, once eaten, left the students with empty round baking tins. Partly as a joke and partly for fun, people began throwing these tins about, discovering that they could actually fly. Metal was later replaced by plastic, with various names being used along the way, until we arrived at the modern-day ’frisbee’ – which is simply a corruption of the name of the baker who supplied cakes to the students in Connecticut.
