Macron’s already strong presence in the English Football League Championship is set to grow even further thanks to a technical partnership agreement with one of the oldest football clubs in England and the world, Sheffield Wednesday. The Italian brand has signed a long-term agreement with The Owls, to come into effect from next season.

Founded in 1867, Sheffield Wednesday is one of the twelve clubs that founded the Football Alliance, a league which they went on to win in its very first season. Throughout their long history, the blue and whites of Sheffield have won four national championships, three FA Cups, one League Cup and one Charity Shield. Another interesting fact about the team is that it is the only one to have a day of the week in its name. This stems from the fact that it was originally a cricket team, and Wednesday was the day off for the tradesmen who made up the team, which was used to play matches.

Macron will supply Sheffield Wednesday with match kits, technical apparel and a range of merchandise for the first team and the youth academy. Each item features ‘Made in Italy’ style and design. The technical expertise and high quality of the garments, coupled with meticulous attention to detail, make the Italian company a leading brand in the teamwear sector; this is complemented by research and bespoke graphic design that brings to life a club’s history, tradition, colours and symbols. 154 years of history provide a vast ‘archive’ from which Macron and Sheffield Wednesday can draw to ‘tell the story’, through shirts and merchandise, of this team’s winning spirit – a spirit that perfectly aligns with the values embodied by those who wear the Macron Hero on their chests.

“We are delighted and proud that a historic club like Sheffield Wednesday has chosen to wear the Macron Hero,” commented Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron. “This is a partnership that can only grow and develop over the coming years, a journey we have decided to embark on together. The values of sport, team spirit, and the daily commitment to achieving a goal without ever giving up and by working hard are elements that form part of our philosophy of life, and which we recognise perfectly in this club, which carries on its shoulders over a century and a half of sporting history. A legacy of tradition, emotion and a sense of belonging that we want to convey through our kit to the players on the pitch and the fans in the stands – both of whom are Macron Heroes in every sense of the word.”.

The Owls“ Chief Operating Officer, Liam Dooley, added: ”We are delighted to officially announce Macron as our new Official Technical Kit Partner. Macron is renowned for the design and quality of its kits, and we are really excited about our new range for the 2021–22 season. We are delighted to have secured a long-term agreement, which not only provides the club with an excellent commercial package but will also offer our fans stunning, high-quality kits for many years to come.”.
