If a Serie A manager gets the scudetto tattooed on his forearm, it only seems only right that the boys of the Unione Sportiva Orione have also got the date of May 16, 2022 tattooed on their arm. A date that represents the most intense page in the history of this Lombard football club. “Guys, let’s write history,” said the manager before taking to the field. And that is exactly what they did. In the year of the 75th anniversary of the Society, the First Team won the Coppa Lombardia after an incredible and exhausting journey that began in September and ended in May. 267 teams entered the competition and it was the boys of the U.S. Orione who ultimately lifted the Cup. In the final against Gandinese, the white-and-blue boys prevailed 2-1 with goals from captain Gallizia and a second-half double from Murtas. An endless game, but in the 95th minute the U.S. Orione not only won a regional trophy for the first time, but also took first place in the ranking for First Category membership.

NO ONE IS BORN A HERO, BUT THEY CAN BECOME ONE

What lies behind this success is the work of many passionate people and the perseverance to achieve a goal. Numbers are important, the victories, the goals scored, but also the ability to endure pain and still go out onto the field with a dislocated ankle or a swollen knee, the dedication to work to not miss a training session, the sacrifices, the effort and the joy of being part of a team. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the coaches and the people who are on hand every day to support the club. A fantastic result for a small neighborhood club with only one field and managed exclusively by volunteers. Proof that it is possible to achieve any result thanks to will, hard work and accepting challenges knowing that everything is possible.

A BIT OF HISTORY AND THAT FIRST FIELD THAT WOULD SOON BE FLOODED

The year 1947 is imprinted on the coat of arms of the Unione Sportiva Orione: it is the date that everyone considers to be the official start of the activity organized by the Society. It was the post-war years in a Milan that was getting back on its feet, and the first field was located two meters below the street level and often flooded. You could reach the Cascina Restocco on foot or by bicycle; at that time it was the most remote suburb of the Lombardy capital and today it is just outside the city center. Thanks to the initiative of Don Ignazio Cavarretta, a society was founded at Don Orione that, through sports activities, brings together young people of all origins, religions and social conditions. These were heroic years, but the U.S. Orione shone just as did its players. Since 1947 to today, many achievements have been achieved: joining the FIGC, establishing the Football School, the birth of a women’s team and many successes.

A BRIGHT PRESENT AND A FUTURE TO BUILD ON

The present of US Orione coincides with the highest sporting point in the Club’s history: thanks to the success in the Lombardy Cup, and the subsequent promotion, for the first time the First category championship will be played; a challenge unprecedented and exciting, a new foundation to consolidate the past and to start over with new dreams, because it is widely demonstrated that the future is not written but depends on the seriousness of the planning and the spirit of sacrifice: every result becomes possible.

A T-SHIRT THAT IS A SECOND SKIN

For an athlete, the jersey becomes a second skin and that is indeed the case among the boys of US Orion as well. A jersey that represents team spirit, identity, the desire to put themselves out there by working hard, always taking risks. Believing and fighting with respect for the opponents. “Work Hard, Play Harder”.
