A YOUNG REALITY BUT WITH AN AMBITIOUS OBJECTIVE

The story of Her Hoops AU, the Australian women’s basketball academy, is young and exciting. Founded in February 2019 by Makailah Dyer, a professional basketball player, it was created to offer young female athletes (from middle school to high school) a high-level basketball training, along with a personal growth journey that develops confidence, work ethic, and a team spirit. In fact, the primary goal of the project is to train the athlete and the woman, by training and enhancing the qualities necessary to be positive role models and leaders on and off the court, as well as within their community.

VALORIZING SPORT FOR WOMEN

The dropout rate among women in sports is more than twice that of male athletes. This is mainly due to fewer opportunities, a lack of quality experiences, and the absence of specific protections. Therefore, the Her Hoops project is centered on the desire to create for the athletes the same opportunities that their male counterparts have and to help them grow, both from a sporting and human perspective. To date, more than 200 athletes have been trained by Her Hoops AU and a territorial expansion of the program is currently in the planning phase.

RUBY VLAHOV, THE EXAMPLE OF THE GOODNESS OF THE PROJECT

Ruby Vlahov is a young athlete who started attending the Her Hoops courses at the age of 14 and immediately stood out, becoming a rising star in basketball in Western Australia. In addition to being a talented athlete, Ruby excels in her studies and has proven to be a natural leader among her peers. Within the academy, she also works to coach the Little Hoopers, girls aged 5 to 10 who are making their way into the world of basketball. “Although on-court basketball development is very important to us at Her Hoops AU, – stated Makailah Dyer – we also strive to transform our girls into young women capable of excelling in every aspect of life. Ruby truly represents what we want our athletes to be in our program and we are very proud of her.”.

MACRON-HER HOOPS, AN IDEAL PARTNERSHIP

Macron’s significant entry onto the Australian basketball scene created the immediate premise for the partnership with Her Hoops AU, who recognize the Italian brand not only for its international leadership in the world of sports apparel, but also for its passionate belief in promoting women’s sports, which is why the choice to work together was easy.
