Kaposvár is a thousand-year-old town nestled in the hills of the Somogy region, south of Lake Balaton, in Hungary. Its attractions include numerous monuments, a welcoming landscape, a carnival where the old spinster Dorothea is transformed into a beautiful young woman during the festivities, and a beautiful and successful volleyball team, the FINO Kaposvár Volleyball which this year has once again been crowned Hungarian Champions, dominating the Férfi NBI Extraliga, the top Hungarian men’s volleyball league. This success takes on even greater significance because it was hard-fought and has served to confirm both the vitality of the club’s sporting project and the fact that, whilst victory is in its DNA, sooner or later it always makes itself felt.

A track record worthy of a top club

This latest trophy adds to the club’s already impressive collection, which includes 20 national titles (as well as seven second-place finishes) and 18 Hungarian Cups, as well as a string of successes in the youth teams, which are vital to the club’s development at every level.  The history of Kaposvár Volleyball began in 1953 under the name Kaposvári Dózsa, but it was in the early 1990s that the club began to rack up victories. At the end of the 1991–92 season, the club won its first national title, followed by two more in quick succession; from then on, Kaposvár became a regular fixture in the roll of honour for both the league and the Hungarian Cup. These successes also enabled the team to take part in international competitions.

From the bottom to the top, everyone’s commitment

The first team’s successes stem from strategic planning and organisation, but also depend on a solid club structure and the investment made in young players.  FINO Kaposvár Volleyball fields men’s teams ranging from the Under-20s down to the Under-13s. This programme helps to develop young talents who represent the club’s future. Alongside this is a philosophy and work ethic that underpin everything.
