The Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque, a Basque rugby club competing in the French Pro D2 league, has presented the new home kit made by Macron for the coming sporting season. The kit revolves around the season’s theme, namely the “Family Reunion”, which brings together all the Basque provinces, united by their shared roots. Beyond paying tribute to the club’s history and its supporters, in fact, the kit celebrates Basque culture in its entirety, as demonstrated by the decision to unveil the kit on the day of the friendly against their historic rivals, Aviron Bayonnais Rugby Pro, as part of a series of derby matches between Basque teams. What the club aims to celebrate is, in fact, the unity of this region, as well as the diversity and the importance that each individual club holds. The colours reflect Basque identity and pride, and the kit also stands as a symbol of respect for the other teams in the region, who share the same values and the same passion – factors that make Basque rugby so unique and special.
As for the club itself, however, the kit pays homage to a glorious period in its history, when Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque shone on the European stage. Indeed, the kit brings to mind memories of matches at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastián, the 2010 European Rugby Champions Cup final at the Stade de France, and the club’s first European title in the Challenge Cup in 2012 against Rugby Club Toulonnais.
The new shirt Home, a crew-neck top, features the design of the Ikurriña, the symbol of the Basque Country, which pays tribute to the unity of the seven Basque provinces. The red, the white and the green They also feature on the shoulders and sleeves, as well as in the detailing around the neck. The back of the neck is personalised with a red-backed label, above which the club’s name and logo appear. Inside the back of the neck, there is also the Macron logo and the words ‘Designed in Bologna’, to certify and highlight how each garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus. Three logos stand out on the chest, all three embroidered: in the centre, in red, is the coat of arms of the Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque, on the left, in white, the Macron the Hero and on the right, also in white, the Ville de Biarritz logo. The Basque cross – a curved cross – is also printed in green on the back of the shirt. The red shorts feature white drawstrings and green side stripes. The socks are white with a red top edge and a thin green stripe. The Macron Hero logo appears in red above the ankle, whilst the word ‘Biarritz’ is printed in the same colour on the calf.
The kit is made, like all the garments produced by Macron for its partner clubs, from Eco Fabric, 100% polyester fabric (TP3T) made from recycled post-consumer plastic. Specifically for the jumper, which has a fit Body Fit, The fabrics used are Echo Armevo e Echo Bodytex, which, as well as being lightweight and breathable, ensure maximum durability.
