The legend and mythological power of the basilisk characterise the ‘Special Kit 24–25’ of the’ FC Basel and was made by Macron, the Swiss club’s technical partner. The basilisk – half snake, half rooster – is one of the most significant symbols not only in the history but also in the everyday life of Basel and the club, which fully embodies Switzerland’s cultural capital. On the special shirt that the RotBlau which they will wear throughout this season, the legend of the basilisk is ‘told’ through the graphics, symbols and colour details. Over the coming weeks, the club, together with the Basel Tourist Board, will organise a special treasure hunt, with four golden balls (symbolising four golden eggs) hidden around the city, along with a series of clues to help find them, which will be posted, one by one, on the social media profiles of FC Basel and Basel Tourismus.

The basilisk is a wild and legendary creature, born from an egg laid by a cockerel at the bottom of a dark well. This egg, which was a greyish-blue colour, was incubated for 19 days by a snake coiled around it. The colour of the shell, thanks to the heat, turned a golden yellow, and when it hatched, out emerged a creature half-snake and half-rooster with fiery red eyes: the basilisk. Tame at night, but by day, in the sunlight, it is ferocious and lethal, capable of petrifying and killing any creature with its breath and its gaze. Ever since, this mythological ‘guardian’ has been the symbol and protector of Basel in a legend that has endured through the centuries.

Lo Special Kit 24–25 FC Basel’s is characterised by gold-coloured which is reminiscent of the eggshell from which the basilisk was born, whilst the red and burgundy details on the crew neck and sleeve hems echo the creature’s red eyes – a mere glance at which is fatal. The front and back of the T-shirt feature a slightly darker gold sublimation print, consisting of vertical bands within which the basilisk design is repeated. On the chest, both in black silicone print, on the right is the Macron the Hero, on the left, a monochrome version of the coat of arms of the’FC Basel 1893, surmounted by two stars symbolising the club’s 20 Swiss Championship titles.

The back of the neck is personalised with a black-background label featuring, in white, a design of the basilisk, the ball from the club’s crest, and the words ‘FC Basel 1893’ alongside the Macron logo and the text ‘’Designed in Bologna’ which certifies that every garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus. On the back of the jersey there is a personalised tape featuring the repeated white lettering ‘BRENNE FOR FCB’ (“Burning for FCB”). The basilisk design is printed in red on the outer back of the collar. The shorts are gold in colour with a drawstring and burgundy side stripes. The gold socks have a burgundy top edge with a horizontal red stripe, whilst in the centre a wavy burgundy band features, in red and centred, the acronym FCB at the front and the date 1893 – the year FC Basel was founded – at the back.
