The Worthing FC, in partnership with the leading sportswear manufacturer Macron and the inclusive design platform wecanfly, has launched a special edition purple football kit to mark the start of the Disability Awareness Month in the UK. This unique partnership celebrates inclusion, accessibility and community, whilst supporting charitable efforts to improve the facilities at Worthing Football Club so that they are better able to accommodate people with disabilities.

All proceeds from sales of the kit will go directly towards funding these accessibility improvements, reinforcing the club’s commitment to inclusivity and creating a welcoming environment for all fans and players.

The design

The Macron’s Worthing FC x wecanfly Special Edition kit It is a powerful symbol of inclusion in relation to disability. The design process, led by wecanfly, involved close collaboration with Worthing FC, focusing on the essence of the club and its seaside community.
The key design elements are:

  • The purple, which symbolises disability and inclusion through the colour’s association with pride, dignity, respect and empowerment.
  • A wave pattern, which reflects Worthing’s coastal identity.
  • Fish silhouettes, inspired by the club’s crest, woven into the green mesh side panels.
  • The cream-coloured logo and the contrasting collar give it an elegant, timeless look.
  • wecanfly’s slogan “Disability does not mean inability” (disability is not the same as incapacity) is clearly visible on the lower back.
  • Eco Gotex, a high-performance recycled polyester yarn, ensures that the kit is sustainable and practical for use both on the pitch and in the stands.

Macron’s production of the kit is a fine example of craftsmanship, with meticulous attention to quality and detail ensuring an exceptional product for fans and players alike.

The partnership

This initiative stemmed from a shared vision between Jake Baker-Cliff, founder of wecanfly, and George Dowell, owner of Worthing FC. A chance meeting during a round-table discussion on the inclusion of people with disabilities led to a friendship built on a shared passion for football and accessibility. The pair came up with the idea for a disability awareness kit, with Baker-Cliff committed to making the project a charitable one from the very start.

Macron, based in Italy, welcomed the idea with enthusiasm. Their support helped bring the project to life, bringing together the worlds of fashion, sport and inclusion to mark Disability Awareness Month and promote tangible change.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Worthing FC, a Macron club since 2023, on this inspiring initiative. When the club approached us to support their special-edition kit for Disability Awareness Month, we were keen to join forces. At Macron, we firmly believe in the power of sport to raise awareness and promote inclusion, even for those who, sadly, may no longer be able to play.”.

“Worthing FC’s impact and commitment to meaningful causes make it an incredibly important part of the Macron family. We are proud to stand alongside Worthing FC in this endeavour, celebrating the unifying spirit of sport and its ability to drive positive change.”, he said Giovanni Maruzzi, Chief Sales Officer at Macron.
