Macron, Víkingur and 66°North have joined forces to create a special shirt that tells a story of sport, identity and solidarity. Designed to support Ingvar Jónsson, Víkingur’s goalkeeper and former Iceland international, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, the shirt is part of a charitable initiative, with all proceeds from sales going directly to him and his family.

The project weaves together the history of the club and that of 66°North, the renowned Icelandic brand celebrating its centenary in 2026. Its inspiration dates back to 1921, when Víkingur embarked on its first away trip ahead of the Icelandic championship, sailing to the Westfjords for a friendly against Ísfirðingar. It was in those same waters, around the same period, that the idea behind what would become 66°North began to take shape. The shirt pays tribute to that journey and to Víkingur’s first team to win the national title.

The design celebrates this important period in the club’s history through an archival photograph on the lower front of the shirt, featuring the Víkingur team that won its first national titles in the early 1920s. Across the rest of the shirt, a sepia tone reinforces the vintage aesthetic, while a grid of grey lines representing meridians and parallels extends across the fabric and intersects with a map of Iceland on the back. Highlighted in orange is the 66th parallel north, a reference to the line of latitude associated with the Arctic Circle from which the brand takes its name. Orange, the brand’s original colour, also recalls its first product: a fisherman’s oilskin jacket designed to make people more visible at sea.

The chest features the Macron logo on the right and a special version of the Víkingur crest on the left, combined with the 66°North logo. Both are rendered in orange silicone print.

The project is made even more meaningful by the support of all Víkingur’s sponsors, who have given up their usual space on the shirt to make room for the cause. This collective gesture highlights how the collaboration goes beyond football, placing an individual and the community around him at its heart.

The shirt will go on sale at 11 pm Icelandic time through Víkingur’s online store. Any remaining shirts will be available the following evening at a special event in a 66°North store. The team will wear the shirt in its final match of the season on Saturday 24 October, before celebrating its 2026 Icelandic championship title. Everyone hopes that Ingvar will be able to join his teammates and supporters to share in the occasion.

Through this initiative, Víkingur, Macron and 66°North show how a shirt can carry a club’s history, a brand’s origins and meaningful support for an individual, turning sport into a genuine expression of solidarity.
