Macron and Hannover 96 present a special shirt dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Hannover becoming the capital of Lower Saxony (Landeshauptstadt Hannover). The club celebrates this milestone by paying tribute to its home city with an exclusive shirt designed to highlight its symbols, colours and strong bond with the local community. The team will take to the pitch wearing the shirt on 1 November 2026, in the home fixture against Dynamo Dresden, exactly 80 years after Hannover became the capital of the newly established state of Lower Saxony on 1 November 1946.
The shirt stands out for its graphic design, which combines red and white, the city’s colours, drawing on the shade of red used in Hannover’s city flag. The design features a vertical division between the two-colour blocks across the body, with red on the right-hand half and white on the left, while the sleeves are entirely red. The result is a clean, instantly recognisable composition that places Hannover’s identity at its heart.
The coat of arms of the City of Hannover is the undisputed centrepiece of the project, having been specially reinterpreted for the shirt in agreement with the city administration. The customised version incorporates the wording HANNOVER and a black, white and green flag, inspired by a historical depiction that also appeared in a similar form in Hannover 96’s crest around 1946. The coat of arms is embroidered at the centre of the chest and reproduced across the entire front and back of the shirt in an all-over, tone-on-tone sublimated pattern, creating a uniform pattern and adding depth to the design.
Beneath the coat of arms, the wording LANDESHAUPTSTADT HANNOVER features prominently on the front of the shirt, highlighting the significance of the anniversary. The same wording is reproduced more discreetly, tone on tone and with embroidered detailing, on the cuffs of both sleeves. The Macron Hero and the Hannover 96 logo, both embroidered, also feature on the chest. The decision to omit the usual commercial partner logos from the shirt helps ensure that the city remains the undisputed focal point of the design.
The internal and external details also celebrate the anniversary. The outline of Lower Saxony appears in the backneck area, with the number 80 at its centre, marking the 80 years since Hannover became the state capital. The state’s silhouette also features on the silicone tape along the lower back hem of the shirt, accompanied by the wording LANDESHAUPTSTADT HANNOVER. The V-neck and sleeve cuffs are finished with white details, maintaining continuity with the shirt’s colour palette.
From a technical perspective, the shirt features a Slim fit and is made from carefully selected fabrics to ensure comfort and functionality. The body and sleeves use Eco Piola, while the collar and sleeve cuffs are made from Eco Softlock. The back panel is made from Eco James. Like all Hannover 96’s current shirts, this special edition is made entirely from Eco Fabric: each garment is produced using fabrics made from 100% recycled PET. It is estimated that the production of each shirt recycles the equivalent of approximately 13 half-litre plastic bottles.
The commemorative shirt will be worn by the team in the home fixture against Dynamo Dresden on 1 November 2026. Limited to 9,996 pieces, will be available soon in the dedicated section on macron.com.
With this special edition, Hannover 96 and Macron celebrate 80 years of Hannover as the capital of Lower Saxony through a shirt that brings together history, civic identity and sporting belonging, turning an institutional anniversary into a symbol to be worn with pride.
