The presentation event for the new 2026 Azzurri jerseys created by Macron for the Italian Men’s, Women’s and 3×3 National Basketball Teams took place at the Museo del Basket Italiano (MUBIT) in Bologna.
The event formed part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Italian National Basketball Team, which played its first official match on 4 April 1926, and brought together some of the greatest legends in the history of ItalBasket. Present at MUBIT were Dino Meneghin, Andrea Meneghin, Carlton Myers, Gigi Datome, Gianluca Basile, Pierluigi Marzorati, Andrea Bargnani, Simone Fontecchio, Roberto Brunamonti, Carlo Recalcati, Romeo Sacchetti, Renato Villalta, Marco Belinelli, Renzo Bariviera, Gregor Fučka, Giacomo Galanda and Giorgio Bongiovanni.
The new kit created by Macron for the Italian Basketball Federation stands out through a design capable of combining tradition and contemporaneity, with the Home version presented in white with light blue detailing, while the Away version offers the reverse combination, featuring a light blue base enriched with white inserts.
At the centre of the kit is a vintage-style Italian tricolour positioned on the chest alongside the Macron Hero, a direct reference to the jersey worn during the historic first match in 1926. The “ITALIA” wording, together with the players’ names and numbers, is also created using a retro-inspired font designed to evoke the identity and tradition of Italian basketball.
What makes the Game Set truly unique and exclusive is the tone-on-tone sublimated print running across the fabric of the jersey: a tribute to the history of the national team through the names of every athlete who has worn the Azzurri shirt at least once during their career. A further celebratory detail appears on both the inner and outer collar inserts, featuring the date and result of the national team’s first official match: “Italy-France 23-17 / 4 April 1926”. The Game Set is completed by a short-sleeved shooting shirt incorporating the same style and distinctive graphic elements as the match uniforms.
The Game Set created for the Senior Women’s National Team is distinguished by a clean and essential design capable of expressing identity and belonging through details of strong symbolic value. The “ITALIA” wording, together with the players’ names and numbers, is created using the institutional font and topped by the Italian tricolour flag. The defining feature of the women’s kit is the insert on both the inner and outer collar carrying the phrase “L’Italia chiamò” (“Italy has called”), taken from the Italian national anthem, a direct reference to the values of identity, pride and belonging that have always accompanied the Azzurri shirt.
The project developed by the Bologna-based brand for the Italian Basketball Federation fully reflects Macron’s distinctive philosophy, founded on meticulous attention to detail and the use of high-quality technical materials designed to guarantee performance, comfort and maximum freedom of movement for athletes. Great attention has also been paid to sustainability: all kits are produced using Eco Fabric, materials made entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic.
