Cardiff Rugby celebrates 150 years of history with a new Special Kit 2026/27, designed and produced by Macron. Completing the Game Set ahead of the new season, the new kit looks back to the club’s origins, reinterpreting in a contemporary way a shirt worn during Cardiff’s first season in 1876. The total black design features the distinctive skull and crossbones, faithfully reproduced from the historic shirt worn at the beginning of the club’s history.
The new Special Kit 2026/27 features an all-black base with a polo collar. At the centre of the chest, the white skull and crossbones stand out as a distinctive element of the first Cardiff Rugby shirt. The symbol was probably linked to the city’s maritime tradition, as Cardiff was once considered a stronghold of pirates, leading to “The Pirates” being adopted as a nickname for the team.
On the chest, the Macron Hero and Cardiff Rugby crest are applied in a tone-on-tone finish. Continuing the design language of the Home and Away kits, the backneck features the two club crests, the Macron Hero and the wording Designed in Bologna, certifying that every garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus. A customised gold tape celebrates the club’s 150th anniversary with the wording CELEBRATING 150 YEARS and YMLAEN CAERDYDD (“Go Cardiff” in Welsh). The anniversary is also referenced by the tone-on-tone 150 detail on the back of the collar.
On the lower back of the shirt, an embossed graphic reproduces the Cardiff RFC crest, paying tribute to the club’s sporting heritage and its connection with its history.
The Special Kit is completed by fully black shorts and socks, creating a clean and uniform total look.
The shirt features a Body Fit and, like all technical garments produced by Macron for its partner clubs, is made from Eco Fabric, 100% polyester derived from post-consumer recycled plastic. The main fabric is Eco Armevo, while Eco Boditex and Eco Strong Mesh inserts help provide lightness, breathability, durability and freedom of movement, creating a garment designed to meet the demands of high-performance rugby.
