In just a few weeks, first thanks to the agreement with USA Rugby and now with the new technical partnership with Major League Rugby, Macron has become USA’s reference sportswear brand. The Italian company will supply game kits, technical apparel for training and clothing for representation and leisure to all eleven franchises that are part of the top rugby championship in North America. Macron will also dress the technical staff and all the referees during the season, which runs from March to August.
Major League Rugby, which brings together teams from the United States and Canada, became a reality in the US in the autumn of 2016 when a professional 15-a-side rugby championship was established. The first teams that wanted to start a professional league affiliated themselves to it. 21st April 2018 was the day the first inaugural match took place, and over the years the number of teams has grown to eleven. Six seasons have been played so far, and the current title holders of the MLR are the New England Free Jacks from Boston. In addition to the defending champions, the other franchises that will wear Macron apparel from next season are: Anthem RC, Chicago Hounds, Houston SaberCats, New Orleans Gold, Old Glory DC, Rugby FC Los Angeles, San Diego Legion, Seattle Seawolves, Utah Warriors.
“We are delighted for this important partnership because it allows us to make available to the MLR all our experience in a discipline in which we have been the leading brand at an international level for several years now. – said Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron – Rugby is our home, and we are happy to be able to start this exciting journey with a league that wants to grow and develop. The work we are doing in the US sports market is bearing fruit, and we can only be enthusiastic about the results and the choice we made at the beginning of the year to open our American headquarters in Bridgeport, CT, which has allowed us to launch important new projects and prestigious partnerships.”
“This is a landmark agreement that will be crucial for the continued growth and progress of rugby in the U.S., uniting the two premier rugby organizations in America underneath one apparel brand,” said Nic Benson, CEO and Commissioner of MLR. “Major League Rugby and USA Rugby are leading the way in advance of the 2028 Olympics and 2031 Rugby World Cup coming to the U.S. By partnering with Macron to handle all apparel needs for our organizations, we are bringing American rugby together to grow, to compete and to win.”
