A historic club in Northern Irish football joins the Macron family. The Italian brand, a global leader in teamwear, and Glentoran FC have announced a partnership that, starting from the next season, will see the Macron Hero stand out on the Glens’ shirts. The agreement includes the supply of all technical apparel and the creation of game kits featuring high-quality materials, technical excellence, and innovative, customised design that best expresses the identity, symbols, and history of the Belfast-based club.
Glentoran FC was founded in 1882 by workers from the local shipyards and has always maintained a strong identity rooted in its industrial origins in East Belfast. It is one of only three Northern Irish teams never to have been relegated from the top division and boasts a trophy cabinet with over 130 titles, including 23 IFA Premierships, 23 Irish Cups, and 7 Irish Football League Cups. Among its European appearances, the two-legged tie against Eusebio’s Benfica stands out – a contest in which Glentoran held their heads high, eliminated only by the away goals rule.
A young George Best also sat among the Glens’ fans at The Oval, brought by his grandfather to watch matches. Best was once “rejected” by Glentoran for being considered “too small and light,” but eventually wore the club’s jersey once in his career – in a friendly match against Manchester United during Glentoran’s centenary celebration.
