FC Basel and Macron have just presented the fourth and last kit in the Swiss club’s official game set. The 2024/25 Special Kit is based on the legend of the Basilisk, the mythical beast that symbolises the city of Basel. Half serpent and half cock, this creature is one of the most significant and recurring motifs in the city’s art, architecture and culture and has also been adopted as a symbol of the club. The club is relating the legend of the Basilisk not just through the graphics, symbols and colours of the special kit that the RotBlau will wear this season, but also through initiatives aimed at supporters and people of the city. Over the next few weeks, FC Basel, in conjunction with the Basel Tourism, will organise a special treasure hunt, with four gold footballs (symbolising four golden eggs) hidden around the city. A series of clues for finding them will then be given on the social media profiles of FC Basel and Basel Tourismus.

The legend relates that the Basilisk is a fierce and deadly creature that hatched from an egg laid by a cock at the bottom of a dark pit. The blue-grey egg was kept warm for 19 days by a serpent that wound itself around it. Thanks to the serpent’s warmth, the colour of the shell changed to a golden yellow. When the egg hatched, the creature that emerged – the Basilisk – was half serpent and half cock, with fire-red eyes. Though docile at night, the beast is ferocious and lethal during the day and can easily petrify and kill all other creatures with its breath and stare. This mythological animal became the guardian and protector of Basel, and its legend has been maintained for centuries to the present day.

FC Basel’s 24-25 Special Kit is gold, recalling the shell of the egg from which the Basilisk hatched. Red and Bordeaux details on the crew neck and sleeve cuffs recall the eyes of the creature and their fatal stare. The body of the shirt, front and back, features an embossed graphic pattern consisting of vertical stripes inside which the motif of the Basilisk is repeated. Printed in Bordeaux silicone on the chest are the Macron Hero on the right and, on the left, a single-colour version of the FC Basel 1893 badge with two stars over it, representing the 20 Swiss Championships that the club has won.

The custom inside neck label has a black background and, in white, the image of the Basilisk, the ball that appears in the club’s badge and the lettering FC BASEL 1893. Also present are the Macron logo and the words Designed in Bologna, certifying that the garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus. A customised tape that runs around the inside of the back bottom hem repeats the phrase BRENNE FÜR DEN FCB (Burning for FCB) in white. An image of the Basilisk is printed in red behind the neck. The shorts are gold with Bordeaux drawstrings and side bands. The socks are gold and have a Bordeaux cuff with a red strip around it. Also in red, inside a wavy Bordeaux band around the middle, are the letters ‘FCB’ at the front and, at the back, the club’s date or foundation, 1893.

Like all the kits designed by Macron for FC Basel, the 24-25 Special Kit is made from Eco Fabric, a polyester material 100% derived from recycled post-consumer plastic. In particular, the Slim Fit shirt is made mainly from Eco Light Serena with sleeves in Eco Softlock and an Eco Micromesh panel in the back for improved lightness and breathability. The new kit and all the other garments developed by Macron for FC Basel 1893 will be available for purchase from the section of the macron.com website dedicated to the Swiss club in the upcoming weeks.
