December is a special month for AJ Auxerre, as it was in the final month of 1905 that Abbé Deschamps founded the Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise. One hundred and twenty years have now passed, and Macron – the club’s technical partner since 2017 – has created a special limited-edition kit to celebrate this prestigious anniversary. A shirt produced in exactly 1,905 units, paying tribute to the club’s founding year, and which will be worn today for the home match against Lille, valid for the 16th round of Ligue 1.
The Maltese Cross, the club’s eternal symbol
Colour and symbols form the soul of a football shirt, and the jersey conceived by Les Bleu et Blanc together with Macron for this anniversary takes supporters back in time, thanks to its vintage feel expressed through the design, detailing and fabric. The material used is Eco Piola, a 100% polyester fabric derived from recycled plastic, which combines softness and elasticity with a distinctly retro touch. The AJ Auxerre 120th Anniversary Kit is white, with a polo collar and long-sleeve cuffs in blue. At the heart of this kit is the Maltese Cross, the symbol of AJ Auxerre and a constant presence on the team’s shirts since the very beginning. This emblem, representing the club’s identity, has been placed prominently at the centre of the chest in blue with a suede-style finish, further enhancing the vintage character of the shirt. The same effect is used for the Macron Hero, positioned centrally above the Maltese Cross, tone-on-tone against the white background to preserve the historical aesthetic of the jersey.
The backneck is customised in AJ Auxerre’s colours, featuring the club crest alongside the phrase L’AJA EST BÂTIE SUR PIERRE, L’AJA NE PÉRIRA PAS (“AJA is built on stone, AJA will not perish”). Beside these elements appear the Macron logo and the wording Designed in Bologna, certifying that every garment is conceived, designed and developed at the Macron Campus in Valsamoggia. On the lower front of the shirt is a white woven label reading AJA 120, personalised with the individual number of each of the 1,905 units produced. On the outer back neck, the dates 1905–2025 are embroidered in blue. The kit is completed by white shorts featuring the Maltese Cross and the Macron Hero in the same suede-style blue finish, and by blue socks.
A second commemorative kit featuring historic imagery
To mark this important 120th anniversary, AJ Auxerre players wore a second celebratory kit during the warm-up before the match. This special shirt, in an off-white tone and with a crew neck, is characterised by a subtle tonal sublimated graphic that displays, on the front, a collage of historic images of the team.
A Capsule Collection dedicated to the supporters
To further involve their fans in the 120th anniversary celebrations, Auxerre and Macron have also created for them a special Capsule Collection, including two polo shirts and two full-zip sweatshirts. The polo shirts are available in a white version, with blue collar and sleeve cuffs and a blue suede-effect Maltese Cross printed on the chest, and in a black version with white details. Both garments feature, on the outer back neck, the embroidered dates 1905–2025. Completing the collection are the full-zip sweatshirts, one white with blue details and the other black with white details, each displaying the Maltese Cross and the Macron Hero on the chest and, like the polos, the embroidered dates of the club’s historic anniversary on the outer back neck.
