The great European rugby season is about to kick off. The long-awaited 2025 edition of the Guinness Men’s Six Nations is sure to present some exciting challenges. The three teams who wear the Macron Hero – Italy, Wales and Scotland – are all determined to excel in the oldest and most prestigious tournament in rugby, now in its 131st year. But a “fourth Macron team” will be on the pitch in every game. We are talking, of course, about the Emirates Match Officials who will be wearing the Macron logo under the technical partnership agreement with World Rugby, international rugby’s governing body.
The 2025 competition, in its 26th year as a six-team event, will kick off at Stade de France, once again home to the French rugby team after a one-year break to host the Olympics. At 20:15 on 31 January, France will take on Wales in a match that ended with a 45-24 win for the French the last time the two teams met in Cardiff. Then on Saturday 1st February at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, reigning champions Ireland (who have won the last two editions of the trophy) will seek revenge against England for last year’s spectacular match, which the English won 23-22 thanks to a late drop goal by Marcus Smith.
Saturday 1st February will also see the first Macron derby between Scotland and Italy. This repeats the formula of the exciting game played at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico in March 2024, when Italy beat Scotland 31-29 after a hard-fought match that Italy managed to turn around in the second half. The Italy-Scotland clash in Six Nations 2025 will take place at Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh and another nail-biting and spectacular clash is on the cards, with the Macron Hero taking pride of place on the shirts of both teams and those of the match officials. The winners will take home the Cuttitta Cup, a trophy introduced in 2022 in memory of Massimo Cuttitta, the ex-Italian prop who went on to coach Scotland’s forwards.
The Under-20 teams will also play the same weekend: Ireland-England at Virgin Media Park in Cork, Scotland-Italy at Hive Stadium in Edinburgh and France-Wales at Stade de la Rabine in Vannes.
Macron has a very special relationship with the sport of rugby. The leading brand in the world of rugby fully shares the sport’s fundamental values: passion, dedication, sacrifice, team spirit and respect – all essential ingredients in a traditional recipe that guarantees a unique sporting spectacle. To all those involved in this year’s Guinness Men’s Six Nations Macron wishes an unforgettable season’s rugby.
